Everman
Debut CD (BEC Recordings) Out June 24th, 2003
Our roots run deep in Texas (Everman is the name of a little town
in our home state) and Hong Kong (yes, the city near China) - strange
bedfellows, we know. Brad Miles, our lead singer, grew up in Texas,
went to college in Texas and fronted a band that toured Texas extensively
for several years. Marcus Yoars, our guitarist, grew up in Hong
Kong as a missionary kid and, well, owned a Dallas Cowboys shirt
as a kid, if that counts.
Following
college, Brad and Marcus moved to Nashville for decidedly different
reasons but soon met on a common ground: music. Our friendship and
musical partnership is as Abbott and Costello as they come: Brad
is the voice - out front, passionate, vibrant, constantly in motion
- the kind of guy who shouldn't be allowed to drink coffee. Marcus
is quiet, his influence more subtle - he's the rock. Truly, we need
each other. We're a musical and personal brotherhood. After a few
years in Nashville, we added bass player Glen Kimberlin and drummer
Chris Brush (both fellow Texans) and signed a record deal with Gotee
founder and producer Todd Collins (DC Talk, Audio Adrenaline, Out
of Eden) on his new label, Beatmart Records.
Here's
what we've figured out after years of mistakes: We spend about 10
hours on stage each week. We love that time and want to be the best
we can be. But to put too much focus on that time would be to overlook
our real calling. We've got 158 more hours a week to do the "stuff"
that really matters - building relationships that last through the
come-and-go reviews and the not-so-tight concerts. We've seen God
at work on stage, but we've seen Him more in the private prayer
of a high schooler or through our initial contact with a youth minister
when we arrive at a church or in a late-night conversation with
a tired hotel clerk. That's what our music is about.

Matt
Mays Wins The Prestigous NXNE/CBC Galaxie Rising Stars Award For
2003
The
ninth annual North By Northeast Music Festival and Industry Conference,
in conjunction with Galaxie, CBC's Continuous Music Network, are
proud to announce that MATT MAYS from Halifax is the winner for
the 3rd Annual Galaxie Rising Stars Award for 2003. The 23-year-old
singer-songwriter, guitarist received a cheque last Friday evening
at The Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto for $3,000.00. Formerly
of The Guthries, Matt released a self titled independent CD to rave
reviews in November 2003.
The
rising star award is a tradition for NXNE that seeks to recognize
emerging homegrown talent. The award is presented to one Canadian
artist or band at NXNE who are thought to be the most likely to
succeed amongst all domestic participants at the festival. A jury
of knowledgeable music industry personalities selected by the directors
of NXNE chose Matt from hundreds of eligible performers.
Getmemusic.com
Lauches Its Own Innovative New Record Label
Independent
music site Getmemusic.com has announced the launch of Virtual, its
innovative new record label that is set to change the face of the
music industry.
Coupled
with the introduction of the site's 'Play CDs Online' concept; a
service that gives listeners the ability to preview whole CDs online
before purchase, Getmemusic.com's new label will enable more independent
bands to showcase their work and sell their music.
"There
is so much talent out there that needs to be heard, but, because
competition is fierce, labels will only sign a small number of artists,
leaving the majority of new and emerging music left out in the cold
and, basically, unheard," explained Mike Jackson, co-owner of Getmemusic.com.
"We
have launched the label with the intent that ALL bands who apply
will be signed. This may appear to be somewhat unconventional, but
Getmemusic has always thrived on being different. And I have always
believed that all bands should be given the chance to sell their
music."

Doors Down Rocks 'AWAY' With Peavey Guitar Amps
After
a rock band goes Platinum with its debut record, most will follow-up
in one of two ways: either by using success as leverage to "break
out" and make an experimental second album, or by making a "safe"
record reprising the formula that brought success in the first place.
Matt Roberts of 3 Doors Down, who recently joined Peavey as a 5150®
II and Triple XXX® guitar amp endorser, avoided both clichés and
the sophomore slump altogether by serving up honest, American rock
'n' roll on his band's new album, Away from the Sun.
The
impetus and influence behind hard rocking songs such as "When I'm
Gone" and "The Road I'm On" didn't come from watching current trends
or reading Billboard, either. "To be honest, I don't even really
listen to the radio," said Roberts. "I'm pretty much a classic rock
guy now. I don't even know what's going on currently, except for
the bands we tour with."
It
makes sense: in order for Roberts & Co. to make a truly classic,
original rock album, they went back to the classics for inspiration.
"Our sound is different now," he said. "The music has grown. In
one word, it's better."
Steve
Blush Compiling NYC Rock & Roll Comp

Steven Blush is compiling New York City Rock & Roll for Radical
Records. The noted author of the book American Hardcore: A Tribal
History is a prime mover in the scene he writes about and DJ's in.
In the 80s, he promoted many hardcore tours and shows, DJ'd an influential
college radio show, and ran a record label. Later Blush published
Seconds magazine, and wrote for Paper, Spin, Interview, Village
Voice, Details and High Times magazines.

has been promoting/DJ'ing Rock Candy nights at Don Hill's NYC nightclub,
and has been privy to a resurgence of real blood 'n guts Rock &
Roll in the big apple. New York City Rock & Roll will compile the
best bands that represent the underbelly of NYC, a return to the
Glam Punk, East Village, downtown sound, exemplified by the New
York Dolls, Iggy Pop, and bands that started out at Max's Kansas
City and CBGB's.

Band Tremolo Included In New Line Cinema Release And Featured On
Soundtrack
Up
and coming act Tremolo have seen their fair share of excitement
over the last few months. Music supervisor John Leshay heard the
bands demo's and decided to place their song "Promise Ring" at a
crucial moment during the film "How to Deal". The film is being
released by New Line Cinema on July 18th and stars pop sensation
Mandy Moore.
The
song caught the attention of Capitol Records VP Jon Polk who is
releasing the soundtrack on July 8th. Jon immediately added "Promise
Ring" to the soundtracks already impressive roster including John
Mayer, The Flaming Lips, Beth Orton, and many others.
