Gorilla Empowers Musicians With Tools To Reach Industry Insiders
Music
Gorilla, a new and fast-growing resource in the online repertoire
of both independent musicians and label scouts, is helping break
down the invisible yet substantial barrier between labels and emerging
artists.
Built
specifically for the needs of the A&R community, label reps sign
written commitments to screen artists from the Music Gorilla community.
The artists themselves upload their music to our server, and are
assured that industry professionals will hear their music, or else
their membership fee is refunded!
In
exchange for a low monthly fee (refunded when the artist brings
others into the fold,) Music Gorilla provides each of its artists
with a full-service web community, featuring unlimited music hosting,
fan base building tools, a personalized band store to sell CDs and
merch, and more services being added monthly. Six Bands from the
Music Gorilla community recently played their songs LIVE for an
A&R rep from Sony Records. All this comes without any intrusive
pop-up or banner advertising on the site!
Music
Gorilla's unique service benefits all parties involved. Each artist
gets to post their state-of-the-art "online resume," thereby gaining
crucial exposure to label insiders, and the labels get tipped off
to talented artists. The user-friendly, ad-free environment is also
a significant draw for the label reps and bands alike.

VeriTouch
Introduces World's First Fingerprint Secured Anti-Piracy Media Player
VeriTouch
Ltd. has delivered its groundbreaking iVue Personal Media Player
for demonstration to several major US record labels and industry
associations RIAA and MPAA.
The
iVue is the first wireless media player designed to provide biometrically
encrypted and secured content for customers, both professionals
and consumers. The patent-pending technology ensures that any music,
video or video game delivered to the customer may only be played
on the iVue after a successful fingerprint scan on the player.
In
practical terms, VeriTouch's breakthrough in anti-piracy technology
means that no delivered content to a customer may be copied, shared
or otherwise distributed because each file is uniquely locked by
the customer's live fingerprint scan.
"We
view the iVue as the first viable tool for the music and film industries
to protect their valuable intellectual properties from piracy,"
stated Gary E. Brant, CEO of VeriTouch, "With massively popular
file-sharing networks like KaZaA and Morpheus, the only true solution
will be encrypting content at its origin, and protecting all further
distribution through secure playback devices like iVue."

Phish's
Final Show
Last
Friday night, I got together with Mike, Page and Fish to talk openly
about the strong feelings I've been having that Phish has run its
course and that we should end it now while it's still on a high
note. Once we started talking, it quickly became apparent that the
other guys' feelings, while not all the same as mine, were similar
in many ways -- most importantly, that we all love and respect Phish
and the Phish audience far too much to stand by and allow it to
drag on beyond the point of vibrancy and health. We don't want to
become caricatures of ourselves, or worse yet, a nostalgia act.
By
the end of the meeting, we realized that after almost twenty-one
years together we were faced with the opportunity to graciously
step away in unison, as a group, united in our friendship and our
feelings of gratitude.
So
Coventry will be the final Phish show. We are proud and thrilled
that it will be in our home state of Vermont. We're also excited
for the June and August shows, our last tour together. For the sake
of clarity, I should say that this is not like the hiatus, which
was our last attempt to revitalize ourselves. We're done. It's been
an amazing and incredible journey. We thank you all for the love
and support that you've shown us.

Phish
Lyricist Tom Marshall Reacts To News Of Phish Breakup
Longtime
Phish lyricst TOM MARSHALL, currently leading his own band, AMFIBIAN,
issued a statement today reacting to the sudden announcement that
Phish was breaking up after 21 years.
Marshall,
who has been co-writing Phish's music with boyhood friend Trey Anastasio
throughout the band's career, had this to say: "Of course I'm sad
that Phish is breaking up, it's the end of an incredible era in
so many ways. However, I'm incredibly proud and happy for them and
more relieved, really, than anything. It's great that they were
able to walk away and end on a positive note, because the potential
for other unhappier endings seemed to be increasing.
An
unusual side-effect I'm noticing is that my band, Amfibian, seems
to release a new album whenever Phish stops playing. And with Amfibian
currently on tour, I'm interested to see how the crowd reacts when
we play Phish songs now -- or better yet, if a Phish member joins
us on stage. I think there will be an added level of intensity for
Amfibian playing during this strange last Phish tour."

Sarah
McLachlan Gets Personal With Latest Artist's Choice CD
Sarah
McLachlan reveals her favorite songs with the release of her exclusive
Artist's Choice CD available now in North American Starbucks locations.
Sarah McLachlan Artist's ChoiceTM joins Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash
and Sheryl Crow in Hear Music's signature compilation CD series
which encourages customers to discover music from both emerging
and classic artists. With this album, Hear Music gives customers
an intimate look into the memories and inspirations of one of today's
most successful female artists.
"The
passion and emotion that Sarah McLachlan has for her work is evident
in every song she records," said Don MacKinnon, vice president of
Music and Entertainment at Starbucks. "The Artist's ChoiceTM series
is a great way for Starbucks customers to sit down with an artist
and discover where these emotions originated from, and learn about
the influencers who have helped shape the music they create."
"They
are all beautiful songs, but as I look over them, I realize there's
a lot of sort of heavy stuff on there," said McLachlan during her
interview with Hear Music. "But that's what I'm drawn to. I'm drawn
towards music that has a soul that moves me in some way that makes
me feel something. Other songs do that as well, but they don't do
it on a deep level."

New
Survey Shows That Teens Are More Likely To Illegally Download Than
Tweens
Tweens
are less likely than teens to download copyrighted commercial software
and other digital media (music, movies and games) through illegal,
online file-sharing networks, according to results of a new Harris
Interactive poll conducted for the Business Software Alliance (BSA).
Three percent of tweens said they have illegally downloaded software
while 33 percent of teens admitted to the practice. The results
indicate that ethical attitudes toward copyright law are significantly
weaker among teenagers, pointing to a need for more education. In
comparing the tween (ages eight to 12) and teen (ages 13 to 18)
age groups, the behaviors and ethical attitudes toward illegally
downloading software are strikingly different:
*
Tweens are less likely than teens to believe that it is okay to
download (16 percent vs. 38 percent) or upload (18 percent vs. 37
percent) software.
*
Tweens are more likely than teens to worry about getting in trouble
with their parents (50 percent vs. 11 percent) for illegally downloading
copyrighted files.
*
Tweens are less likely than teens to say that they know people who
have downloaded files for free that they could have bought in a
store or online (51 percent vs. 90 percent).
"The
gap in behaviors and ethical attitudes from the tween to teen years
indicates a critical need to educate younger kids even earlier and
provide them with guidance that will positively influence their
growth as good cyber citizens and their respect for digital copyrighted
works," says Diane Smiroldo, vice president of public affairs for
BSA.
